Alishan is a high mountain resort and nature preserve in Southwestern Taiwan famous for its scenic beauty and high altitude tea gardens. While the tea production in this area is relatively new (30 years), it has become a highly regarded region due to its advantageous environment. Our Alishan Tong Fang Mei Ren (Oriental Beauty) comes from the Qing Xin Oolong bush that grows 1200 meters above sea level in the fog-shrouded mountains. This high mountain tea is processed using traditional oolong methods in addition to a special processing technique. The tea farmers organically grow the leaves and allow small green leaf silkworms to nibble the leaves. This creates small holes that results in two rounds of oxidation to create a sweet robust flavor. You can feel the honey flavor gradually develop while enjoying this tea. The bright golden tea color is richer than other Taiwanese tea and will turn slightly red after longer infusions. The red color resembles a beautiful woman’s rosy cheeks thus originated the name Oriental Beauty. The popularity of this tea and special techniques needed result in very limited quantity of this high quality tea.
