Tea Mail – April 2005

We sincerely apologize that you haven’t seen a newsletter from us for a while. It has not been for a lack of, but rather too much news.

We moved to a new more robust shopping cart and are working the bugs out. A major benefit is providing more shipping options, especially important for our international customers. We can also now offer gift certificates, discounts on every purchase for tea club members, and members’ login for more convenient purchases. We are creating a wholesale section that will work like the tea club. Another immediate goal is a richer and broader online Tea Knowledgebase and a tea news feed. We will be rewriting and reviewing content for accuracy. Please let us know if there are areas of interest you would like us to cover or research for you.

We are aware our selection is lower than usual. We try to time it that way. The harvest has started and we will have our Meng Ding teas in soon. The harvest in the east has been delayed because of a cold winter. We had a shipment of puer delayed because floods stopped railroad shipments out of Yunnan, but our stock will rebound in the next couple of months. We are also expecting some special new teas soon that we’re sure you’ll enjoy.

I spent the month of January visiting origin producers all over China. We are specializing now in origin certified producers as well as organic producers. We were delighteed to discover some great new teas. Working with the Chinese government agency responsible for setting standards for tea we helped to found the Chinese/American Tea Council. We are currently establishing the council’s bylaws and its mission will be to establish standards for Chinese tea in America. We hope this will make things better for both consumers and producers.

Zhuping and I are back in China where we are opening a tea export office in Guangzhou. I will also be stopping in The United Arab Emirates to meet with tea traders there. We are currently focusing on building an international tea brokerage business, but we will continue to provide great tea at our teahouse and through our website.

These are exciting times in the tea business, with a shifting emphasis on quality, not just in the US but internationally as well. All of us at Seven Cups and Green Dragon Enterprises are very proud to be a small part of that movement. Of course a lot of thanks goes to you and tea lovers everywhere. Without you there would be no progress. Please let us know your thoughts. We have a pretty small staff but we will try to respond to your emails as best we can.

Sincerely,

Austin
