This green tea is made from the brilliant golden-yellow leaves of the Huang Jin Ye (Golden Leaf) cultivar. This makes for an incredibly smooth and sweet green tea with a very delicate golden color.

This green tea is made from the brilliant golden-yellow leaves of the Huang Jin Ye (Golden Leaf) cultivar. As is typical for other yellow or white leaf cultivars like the well-known Anji Baicha tea bush, tea made from Huang Jin Ye is very rich in amino acids, especially when harvested young. This makes for an incredibly smooth and sweet green tea with a very delicate golden color.

Huang Jin Ye (Golden Leaf) is a cultivar of the Camellia sinensis tea plant that is distinct from the similarly named Huang Jin Ya (Golden Bud) cultivar. Even the older leaves on new branches of Golden Leaf stay bright yellow on the bush throughout the harvest season, turning green only after their first year. As the Huang Jin Ye cultivar tea bush did not originate in Anji County, it is not related to Huang Jin Ya or Anji Baicha.

Golden Bud, however, is a native Anji bush. Like Anji Baicha, it only shows its unusual color in its buds in the early spring. If not harvested young, Golden Bud’s bright yellow new growth will turn green again as the leaves mature.
