A small flat top yixing teapot whose spout is sculpted into the shape of a dragon’s head and the handle into its tail. The water comes out of the dragon’s mouth when you pour and a wavelike textured pattern rings the upper part of the pot. The design recalls the Chinese legend of dragons controlling the weather and bringing rain from the ocean to farmers’ fields. It also has a small yin yang symbol on the lid handle. This pot is entirely made from zi ni purple yixing clay, which turns a cool purple-brown color in the kiln. The pot’s wide mouth makes it easy to put tea in the pot and easy to clean. Like most Chinese teapots, it has a built-in strainer set behind the spout to filter tea leaves. This small size is good for someone looking for a small pot, especially for gongfu tea brewing. Capacity 150mL.

About Yixing Clay

Yixing clay comes from Yixing County in Jiangsu Province. This type of clay is prized for its high levels of iron. Many variants of yixing clay with different characters are sourced from different-colored layers in the soil. Natural colors include various shades and gradients of red, yellow, and purple-brown.

Like all of our yixing clay products, this pot is unglazed. The natural clay remains its original color. Yixing clay absorbs aromas easily, so just rinse it off with boiling water instead of washing with soap. Learn how to season a new yixing teapot here.
