This teapot is sculpted in a classic form with handles and spout shaped to resemble bamboo stems. A few small stems actually lift from the pot body in three dimensions before returning to the surface and flowing into long carved bamboo leaves.
The pot is unadorned except for the bamboo carving, showcasing the natural beauty of its high-quality yellow duan ni clay, polished to a delectable velvety smoothness with a dull shine.
This teapot is made from yellow duan ni clay fired at a very high temperature, yielding a cool speckled color often referred to as “pear green” due to its resemblance to the skin of a green pear. Duan ni is one of the rarest natural colors of yixing clay and as such is highly prized.
