Chrysanthemum flowers symbolize humility, happiness, and vitality in Chinese culture and are often mentioned in Chinese literature and poetry. The flowers usually bloom in the autumn and are consumed as a food item and steeped as an herbal tea for their medicinal properties and characteristics. The teapot and the paint used to decorate it are made of naturally colored yixing clay.
The calligraphy on the lid in yellow clay paint reads 锦上添花 (jin shang tian hua) for prosperity. This pot has a built-in strainer bulb behind the spout to filter tea leaves without clogging. The teapot has slightly thick walls and a wide-mouthed body and can be used to make any type of tea, especially wulongs and sheng or shu puer.
