Red plum blossoms were once China’s national flower. The flowers bloom in the coldest part of early spring and have long been associated with endurance and hope for spring. This teapot and the paint used to decorate it are made from natural colors of yixing clay in red, purple-brown, and yellow.
The calligraphy on the lid in yellow clay paint reads 锦上添花 (jin shang tian hua) for prosperity. This pot has a built-in strainer bulb behind the spout to filter tea leaves without clogging. The teapot has slightly thick walls and a wide-mouthed body and can be used to make any type of tea, especially wulongs and sheng or shu puer.
