An elegant teapot from Ru Kiln made in the traditional Song Dynasty style with pale green Ru Yao Tianqing glaze. Ceramics made with this special type of glaze are rarely painted or embellished, instead showcasing its stunning color. You can often see faint stable crackles within the glaze. To get this effect, it must be fired at very high temperatures of around 1300°C (2370°F). Tianqing’s texture is very smooth with a silken finish that is soft to the touch. This teapot comes with a removable perforated stainless steel strainer to filter out dust and tea leaves. However, like most Chinese teapots, it has a built-in strainer set behind the spout as well.

The distinctive bright sky-colored Ru Yao Tianqing glaze was the favorite color of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) emperor Song Huizhong. Its pale translucence resembles the ethereal color of the sky right after rain, just before the sun shines through the dispersing clouds. It comes in two main shades: plum green and moonlight white.

This teapot forms part of a matching set with our Ru Kiln Tianqing Ceramic Teacup, sold separately. It also comes in soft white as the Ru Kiln White Moonlight Ceramic Teapot.
