A small teacup made of pale Yingqing porcelain. A subtly raised line-drawing of a golden orchid adorns the exterior of this piece in delicate strokes, but perhaps its most striking quality is the calming purity of its porcelain’s color: a pale and misty cyan, nearly white, like fog above lake water in the very first light of day.

This color of porcelain is known as Yingqing porcelain, also called Qingbai (青白) porcelain. It was invented in Jingdezhen, the famous porcelain capital, in the Song Dynasty.
