A fine white porcelain gaiwan from Jingdezhen City made to resemble the shape of an open flower, hand-painted with cobalt blue plum tree branch.

The elegant, hand-painted cobalt blue accents stand out against the pure, crisp white porcelain of this gaiwan. The simple lines and branch design are painted onto the unglazed pieces before covering them with a transparent glaze. Ridges on the sides of the gaiwan and slight notches in the lip form six petals of an open flower. This gaiwan is perfect for preparing any kind of tea, especially light and aromatic teas like our Jin Guanyin (Golden Tieguanyin), Baihao Yinzhen (Silver Needle), and Yinhao Longzhu (Silver Dragon Jasmine Pearls).

This thin-walled gaiwan is from the renowned Jingdezhen in Jiangxi Province, famed for its porcelain wares. Known as China’s porcelain capital, Jingdezhen once produced wares for the imperial court of the Ming and Qing dynasties. This classic blue-and-white porcelain style eventually gained popularity and spread to other parts of the world.
