High Summer Jasmine is a jasmine tea for jasmine lovers, presenting the fragrance of the flower at its most pure and intense.

The delicate green tea that serves as this tea’s base is harvested from heirloom tea bushes of Sichuan’s Qianwei county in the early spring. Its tender buds and leaves then wait in cold-storage for just the right moment in the summer, when the days are at their hottest and the jasmine flowers are at their most heady. By the old Chinese calendar, this time of year is known as the sanfu (三伏) days, usually beginning mid-July, at the core of the summer in the northern hemisphere. The high temperatures and bright light of these long, late summer days in July and August overlap with the natural flowering rhythm of the jasmine plant to bring a rush of fragrance as its flower buds open at night.

Amidst the lush atmosphere of these nights, the spring green tea finally comes out of its cold storage to mix with summer’s most fragrant jasmine flowers. It takes six subsequent nights to fully scent this tea. The green tea’s leaves and buds mix with a fresh batch of jasmine flowers each evening to absorb their fragrance before the flowers are sorted out and the tea gently dried.
At the end of this process, High Summer Jasmine conveys not only the intensity of the season’s jasmine, but also its complexity. Captivating floral richness is balanced with lush green notes for a scent that’s suggestive of the whole flower, while the mellow and sweet qualities of spring green tea serve as its backdrop.
