A massive and stately Yixing teapot with nothing to hide and everything to give, this tree-branch teapot was made to impress. With a large capacity well suited to brewing tea for the whole group and dramatic sculpture to capture the eye, this is your yixing pot to bring out at gatherings.
This teapot’s spout and handles have been sculpted into the knobbly boughs of an old plum tree, while a few sprays of gradually opening plum blossoms trail across the pot’s lid and body in relief carvings of wispy young branches. Plum blossoms, as the very first trees to flower in the chill of early spring, have long been a classic symbol of tenacity and hope in Chinese art.
While the sculpted handles form a unique silhouette, the main body of the pot has a classic round form with a lofty raised pedestal foot. The entire pot shines with the rich luster of pure deep red Da Hong Pao yixing clay.
Da Hong Pao clay is a rare specific subtype of Yixing clay. Da Hong Pao clay has naturally higher levels of iron than any other type of Yixing clay. It’s known for its rich deep color and the bell-like sound it makes when tapped. Learn more about Da Hong Pao Yixing clay here.
About Yixing Clay
Yixing clay from Yixing County is prized for its high levels of iron, which holds heat and is said to improve flavor.
Unglazed Yixing clay absorbs aromas and flavors easily, and the tea you make in it seasons it over time. To keep within a similar flavor profile, most people dedicate a specific teapot for brewing just one type of tea, like rock wulong or sheng puer.
To clean, just rinse your pot off with boiling water. Avoid washing with soap.
