Subscribers of our old Origin Series may recognize Ye Lai Xiang (Night Blooming Violet) as an old favorite whose fragrance stands out in memory even among the ranks of highly aromatic Dan Cong wulongs. Its shadowy aromas slowly unfurl layers of sweet violet, jasmine, and geranium accompanied by creamy marshmallow, like a cool breeze through the blossoms at an evening garden party.

Roasting Dan Cong Wulong Traditionally

Dark charcoal ash mounded high in several large round metal stoves for roasting Dan Cong Wulong tea.

The final flavor-developing roast for this tea is done the traditional way for Dan Cong wulong: slow-roasting over smokeless lychee-root charcoal. The ash from this local charcoal is a dark sooty grey-black, rather than white like the bamboo charcoal used to roast Wuyi rock wulong.
