The cobalt and vermilion colors of the shanshui “mountains and waters” scene are carried through every part of the gaiwan, from the lid and body to the saucer. Carefully placed vermilion accents catch your eye as you hold the gaiwan in your hands. Elegant blue lines trace the edges of each piece and add structure to the overall aesthetic. This gaiwan is a great representation of porcelain wares from the Jingdenzhen and the attention to detail used to craft its wares.

The porcelain has a light tint of palest blue to the white background, which adds depth to the deep cobalt scene. The gaiwan has slightly thicker walls than our blue-and-white Jingdezhen porcelain gaiwan, making it perfect for holding heat when using boiling water to steep your teas. Try using this gaiwan to make our Daxueshan (Snow Mountain), Xiao Hong Pao (Little Red Robe), and Lu’an Gua Pian (Sunflower Seed).
