This version of Qi Lan (Rare Orchid) is a study in dynamic contrasts. Although most Wuyi tea makers prefer to roast Qi Lan quite lightly (much like the highly aromatic Que She (Sparrow’s Tongue) and Bai Ji Guan (White Rooster Crest)), our long-time rock wulong producer Liu Dexi has applied his roasting expertise to develop an unusually dark take on this delicate cultivar. His deft expertise has yielded an expansive tea that ranges from pronounced woody aspects to the floral to the subtly savory and spicy, all while maintaining this unique tea bush’s distinctive softness of flavor.

While Qi Lan is now a famous Wu Yi cultivar, it originated in southern Fujian Province. It was imported to the Wu Yi Mountains in the 1990s.

No chemical fertilizer, pesticide, or herbicide was used in the production of this tea. Click here to read more about our promise to fair trade and the environment.
