Rose buds are a caffeine free herbal tea. The rose aroma and taste is gentle and smooth and lightly sweet. You can use it to drink on its own, or add it to another tea for added flavor and stronger medical function. Rose buds are popularly added to black tea and Anxi wulongs. According to Chinese medicine, rose herbal tea is warming and can help blood and qi circulation inside of the body.

When you make the tea, we suggest you crack open the bottom stem from the flower and place both in boiling water. This will help open the concentrated nutrition and give the tea a stronger flavor.

Beginning 1,300 years ago, Pingyin county began cultivating rose buds for many different uses, such as for food, drinks, and medicinal purposes. Pingyin County is located in Taishan (Tai Mountain), where Confucius is alleged to be from. Taishan’s unique climate, water quality, and soil make it one of the three major world-class rose production areas. It has been awarded the title of “China Rose Hometown” and “China Rose Capital.” 

Historically, the Greeks were the first to cultivate roses around 500 BC in Greece. Many Greek scholars mentioned the aroma of roses. Chinese medicine use roses as an herbal tonic, especially the buds. In records during the Tang Dynasty (618-906 AD), the famous beauty Yang Guifei, who was the concubine of the emperor, bathed in spring water soaked with roses, giving her beautiful, healthy skin. The Cha Pu, a famous text on tea from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), mentions rose herbal tea for soothing qi in the stomach or liver and relieving muscle and joint pain.

Teaware: 12 oz glass, cup, or porcelain pot
Amount: 15 rose buds
Water: 212°F filtered water
Infusion: 1st infusion at least 3 minutes. This herbal tea is good for 4 infusions.
