This elegant white teacup is delicately relief-carved with the characters of the Xin Jing “Heart Sutra,” a popular sutra of the Goddess of Mercy (Guanyin) often practiced to calm and empty the mind. The fine characters are raised on the outside of the cup, which has a soft matte finish. The fluted rim of the cup is bordered with a squared spiral pattern, while the raised foot of the base is ringed with petals like a lotus flower.

The inside of the cup is glazed to a shine so that it is easy to clean. The white color is a beautiful backdrop for the color of your tea, and the slight translucence of the clay means a full cup of a dark brew highlights the cup’s relief carvings in turn.
