An elegant porcelain gaiwan made of fine ice jade porcelain in a translucent cool white color with a simple blue peony flower on one side.

The classical blue peony flower design on the side of this teacup was highly popular during the Tang Dynasty (618–907). This era was a prosperous time of cultural flourishing, and particularly a time when Chinese tea culture truly bloomed. The peony is now a frequent symbol of abundance and prosperity.

This teacups forms a matching set with our Blue Peony Ice Jade Porcelain Teacup, sold separately. Also comes in a cicada and bamboo (zhi zhu) pattern as the Cicada Ice Jade Porcelain Gaiwan.

Bing Zhong Ice Jade

Bing zhong or “ice jade” porcelain is a higher grade of suet jade porcelain that has turned a slightly translucent cool white color in the kiln. When held up to the light, this creates a glowing effect like sunlight on glacier ice. Like regular suet jade, ice jade porcelain ware has a very slick, smooth surface that feels very soft to the touch.
