This earliest harvest of Tieguanyin tea leaves would normally be made into our delicate Golden Tieguanyin. However, the tea maker has worked this small lot of leaves more extensively and slow-roasted them over lychee wood charcoal as if making a Wuyi rock wulong tea. As with that famously finicky style of wulong, both the oxidation and the charcoal-roasting steps require great attention and intuition on the part of the tea maker to cultivate the developing flavors and aromas within the leaf.
These efforts have resulted in a compelling tea with a much darker character even toastier than our Traditional Tieguanyin, rich and nutty with sweet florals and notes of ripe apple.
