An understated yet distinguished large teacup made from heavy, thick-glazed plum green celadon in the Longquan Kiln style. The straight sides of the cup have been shaped to resemble a section of segmented bamboo stem for a classic look. The upright stems of bamboo have long been considered a symbol of upstanding integrity and growth.

Longquan Kiln Celadon

Celadon porcelain ware made in the style of Longquan Kiln often has simple, smooth designs that highlight the unadorned beauty of its distinctive green glaze. This thick glaze feels very smooth to the touch, like jade, and is similarly semi-translucent, achieving a luminous effect when layered over the bright white of the base porcelain. This style of ceramics was invented in the early Song Dynasty (960-1279).

The two most common colors of Longquan celadon glaze are “plum green,” a warm, rich green reminiscent of the waxy skin of fresh green plums; and “powder green,” a delicate pale aqua-blue color.
