A piece of fine tea ware from Jun Yao kiln, this handmade brushstroke blue ceramic cup has a dazzling radiating starburst pattern in the bowl of the cup. The cup’s rim is a deep muted brown. The center of the cup is glazed in a bright, variably translucent blue that resembles water bubbling up from a spring. From the core, the blue radiates out toward the edges of the cup in a thin brushstroke pattern. The streaks of blue against the black background fade to a deeper shade as they approach the cup’s rim. These fading brushstrokes also decorate the outside of the cup, originating from the base. Near the cup’s black foot, the streaked blue glaze gathers in a pale ring that resembles dancing sea foam at the edge of a wave.
We suggest only pouring enough tea into this large cup to fill it halfway. Its wide bowl design helps to cool down hot tea quickly when poured in a thin layer. This is good for any tea that is brewed boiling hot, such as wulong or puer. Gaze into the blooming starburst in the bottom of your cup while enjoying the aroma of the steam that curls up from the wide surface area of the cooling tea.
