This colorful teacup from Jun Kiln was designed in imitation of an old lost style of glaze from the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). Its dappled smoky blues and rich browns are created by adding local minerals from Yuzhou City in Henan Province to the glaze. The different densities of these minerals cause them to drip slower or faster in the kiln while firing, generating the contrasting flowery designs. The bowl of the cup itself opens in the shape of a six-petaled flower. It makes for an excellent distinguished personal teacup. Capacity 130mL.
