This bamboo leaf yellow yixing clay cup is made of a special type of yixing clay known as Duan Ni. Duan Ni clay is more rare and expensive since there is not as much of this pure yellow clay as other yixing clay colors. There are many shades and subtypes of each color of yixing clay. This cup is made with Zhi Ma Duan Ni clay (black sesame yellow clay). This clay is named for its naturally occurring speckles of black sand, which resemble toasted black sesame seeds. This variation in color gives the clay a more complex appearance. The light color of the cup allows you to appreciate the color of the tea in it. The slight inward curve of the cup’s waist is very easy and comfortable to hold.
The image of bamboo is often associated with Chinese hermit scholars, who like to peacefully enjoy tea and music under the shade of bamboo forests. The segments of bamboo also symbolize moving up in life through hard work, growing higher from one segment to the next. These cups, with their nesting bamboo segment shape, can be stacked on top of each other to resemble a bamboo stalk.
Like all of our yixing clay products, this cup is unglazed. The natural clay remains its original color. Yixing clay absorbs aromas easily, so just rinse it off with boiling water instead of washing with soap.
